Falconry Class

Sunday, June 25, 2017 - 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM - Christine Peyreigne, of Weston, is currently the state’s youngest and only female General Class Falconer. She will give a presentation with her two falconry birds, Theron and Milo. Theron is a three year old Red Tailed Hawk who has been trained by and has been hunting with Christine for over two years. Milo is a twenty year old Harris Hawk, who was transferred to Christine from another falconer this past January.

Falconry, the sport of hunting with a bird of prey, is more of a lifestyle than a sport, as you are responsible for the daily care of a wild bird of prey, and must attend to his/her needs on a daily basis. It is not a sport for everyone, but can be a highly rewarding sport to those with a passion for wildlife and getting up close and personal with what these birds do naturally. Come out and learn about the history of this sport, meet Theron and Milo, learn about what is involved with training a wild bird of prey, and watch Christine and Theron as she puts him through some of his training for you to see. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask all your questions and learn more about this little known sport!

Children under 12 are welcome and free of charge!

Birds of Prey

Sunday, July 23, 2017 - 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM - Christine Peyreigne from Weston, is a State and Federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator and educator who specializes in birds of prey. She will bring her educational birds of prey to help us all learn about the dangers these animals face in the wild as a result of some of our own actions. Learn what we can do to help protect these majestic birds and what we can do to reduce the number that needlessly die or need rehabilitation.

Christine is the President and Founder of Christine’s Critters, Inc., a not for profit 501(c)3 that is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and educating with birds of prey. She takes in injured and orphaned birds of prey, and if they are deemed healthy for release, they are sent back to the wild for a second chance at life. For those whose injuries prevent a return to the wild, homes at nature centers and educational facilities are sought to allow the bird a chance to become an educational ambassador. All of the birds that are with Christine for educational purposes came to her through rehab, and found their forever home with her at Christine’s Critters.

Come out and meet Christine’s educational ambassadors and learn about these birds of prey that call Weston home. All of her birds are native to this area, and can be heard and seen if you keep your ears and eyes open! Children under 12 are welcome and free of charge!
